James' present

James (husband) is heavily into cycling. But he takes pleasure in buying everything he needs for cycling. Deciding on a gift for him is hard going,  so I made him a clock using a bike cog. I asked in a bike shop if they had any bike cogs they didn't want. I got the one below. I bolted it onto a cardboard cake plate that I had glued a map of our area onto. The little clock mechanism is each side of a central hole.

Fig paintings

The top leaves still need a bit of tweaking, but I like the purple tones coming through.

Rectangle shrug.

That was easy. And it's very warm. Too warm this evening. Wellington's weather is amazing at the moment.

A rectangle with a little sleeve to use up the remainder of the five skeins. I washed it so I could shape it the way I wanted it.

I'm happy with it.

Interrum Knitting.

While I wait for my wool to be couriered from Skeinz, I have begun a shrug that will be similar to these images. I have two balls of the beautifully soft wool pictured below. It is 50% Alpaca 35% Merino 15% Silk. I have ordered 3 more which should be enough to make the rectangle needed to make the shrug. I want it to come to just below my waist. If I have any left over, I will add short bulky sleeves.

Latest Knitting Challenge.

I have spotted an awesome fair isle jacket on Ravelry which I propose to make. The challenge will be to make it from photos only, as the pattern is in Finnish. It could possibly be translated but I can't even find anywhere.

There are several examples of other knitters attempts at this. Several of who have commented on the lack of an English translation.

I will get grey and cream as my main colours and leave the decision on the edge colour till last.

My favourite wool supplier is Skeins in Napier and on line. They have exactly what I need.
